Produced between 1962 and 1965 by the incongruously-named County Commercial Cars Ltd, based in Fleet, Hampshire, the Super-6 was the big, more expensive brother of the Super-4. These two, four-wheel-drive machines were the tractors that really propelled the County into the world of successful, volume production.

Just over 90 years ago, County Commercial Cars was formed. The company was based in Fleet, Hampshire, and began by converting Ford trucks to take larger and heavier loads by fitting extra driven and un-driven axles. The business grew and, after the Second World War, it began converting Fordson tractors into crawlers.

Weighing in at 8 tonnes and costing nearly £30,000 in 1980 it was a huge machine, but only about 20 were ever built before County tractors ran into financial trouble.

The final model introduced by County was the 1884. The Ford 401S engine was turbocharged and intercooled to develop 188bhp. The Benson Group in Knighton, Powys bought County for £3.2 million and continued making County tractors up until 1990. The group made around 150 tractors.
